About the Event
SNIPSA's Big Fix provides free spay/ neuter surgeries for under-served areas in our community. Since SNIPSA launched the Big Fix in 2009, we have spayed/ neutered over 22,000 animals in San Antonio. Our volunteers are an integral part to this program's success-- we couldn't do it without you!!
Available Roles
Break Down and Clean Up
Bring us your muscles!!!! We need volunteers to help our staff break down tables, cages, machines, etc. and load into our vehicles/ trailer. After all the goods are stored, we do a final cleaning sweep and can use helpers with sweeping, mopping, and general tidying. *** Bonus points for upbeat attitudes and solid dance moves! Bring your friends-- the more the merrier!! ***
Breakfast Mamaswaiting list
Set up, organize, and clean breakfast area. Ensure coffee is flowing and food is replenished regularly!
Cat Kennel Room Runnerwaiting list
*AGES 14-15 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A GUARDIAN AT ALL TIMES. NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 14 IS ALLOWED TO VOLUNTEER FOR THIS SHIFT- NO EXCEPTIONS* Volunteers will run cats & paperwork between stations and assist staff with miscellaneous tasks in the cat kennel room.
Cat Recovery
*AGES 14-15 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A GUARDIAN AT ALL TIMES. NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 14 IS ALLOWED TO VOLUNTEER FOR THIS SHIFT- NO EXCEPTIONS* Volunteers will monitor cats recovering from surgery-- this is a critical area where volunteers must pay close attention to anesthetized cats. Duties include removing endotracheal tubes, taking temperatures, monitoring vital signs, keeping animal warm, recording post operative information on paperwork, applying flea/tick prevention, and ensuring pet wakes up uneventfully from surgery. ***As this is a medically charged volunteer area, observant, communicative individuals with an interest in veterinary medicine are encouraged to sign up! ***
Dog Kennel Room Runnerwaiting list
*AGES 16 AND OLDER ONLY* Volunteers will run dogs & paperwork between stations and assist staff with miscellaneous tasks in the dog kennel room.

Laundry Fairies
We need help washing linen's during the Big Fix. This is not a glamorous task, but it's vital to keep things clean during this large event. If you are someone who loves to clean and understand the importance of tidiness this may be your calling. We welcome any and all who would be willing to help. *Warning- laundry could contain all kinds of surprises.

Lunch mamaswaiting list
Set up, organize, and clean lunch area. Ensure beverages and food are replenished regularly, plates and utensils are stocked, and diners are satisfied. :)
Pack Washing
*AGES 14 AND OLDER ONLY- SOME SHARP OBJECTS* Volunteers will clean, prep, and sanitize surgical instruments as well as wrap surgical packs for sterilization. Volunteers will come into contact with blood (on instruments/ gauze) as well as sharp objects (needles/ blades); therefore, this job is not for the faint of heart. This is a vital part of the Big Fix-- without this group of volunteers, surgeries CAN NOT be completed!
Poop Fairies
*MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT IS 16 YEARS OLD- NO EXCEPTIONS* Our Poop fairies will help clean up after the dogs in their crates as they wait for surgery/pick-up. This is such an important job, as every pup deserves a clean crate to lay in! We need a few good volunteers who aren't afraid of getting their hands dirty!
Surgery Intake Registrationwaiting list
*AGES 18 AND OLDER ONLY* Volunteers will check- in pet owners dropping off their animals for surgery. Paperwork is reviewed for accuracy, identification is placed on animals, and owners are directed on next steps. This is a demanding, fast- paced position-- Attention to detail, strong people skills, proficiency in English and Spanish, and adaptability preferred.**
Surgery Pick Upwaiting list
Volunteers will coordinate with animal transporters and volunteer table manager to ensure a safe and seamless surgery pick-up process for owners.
Volunteer Table Managerwaiting list
Direct volunteers to their approved area-- ensure all new volunteers sign in, have a waiver on file, and have received the appropriate training for their assigned volunteer slot. Ability to manage and direct others in a professional, pleasant way is necessary!
