About the Assignment
The Volunteer Engagement Assistant helps the Volunteer Manager with coordination, and consultation for all volunteer functions at the SAAAC Autism Centre. The Volunteer Engagement Assistant ensures that the interests of volunteers are served, and that the organization remains well staffed. They coordinate and schedule volunteers on an ongoing basis and organize single events. They must also keep existing volunteers informed via emails/newsletters or other communications, track volunteering hours, and create program reports to ensure the organization has enough volunteers to fulfill its service mission. To meet that goal, the Volunteer Engagement Assistant must perform a variety of duties involving recruitment of volunteers, training and program planning. They reach out to established volunteers or seek new help using various marketing tools, including volunteer databases, e-mail letters, and outreach events.

Responsibilities
· Implement goals and objectives for the volunteer program which reflect the mission of the organization
· Screen potential volunteers according to screening standards and practices
· Orient volunteers to increase their understanding of the organization, its clients, its services and the role and responsibilities of volunteers
· Ensure that volunteers are given appropriate training to be successful in their positions
· Prepare a monthly report outlining the contribution of the volunteer program to the organization
· Implement the effective strategies to recruit volunteers with the right skills at the right time to match interest of the organization
· Organize and attend recruitment events to attract new volunteers
· Using a volunteer database, tracking volunteer hours and updating volunteers' contact information.
·Help organize and maintain office systems and files
· Greet and direct visitors (not during COVID restrictions).
·Participation in planning, staff meetings, organizational tasks, receiving phone calls, evaluation and other tasks as required by the organization.
· Help design formal or informal activities to recognize the contributions of volunteers to the organization
Requirements
· Strong communication skills – written and verbal,
· Strong community building skills and experience
· Ability to multi-task and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
· Strong computer skills and proficiency in word processing, database management, and spreadsheet applications
· Attention to details; clear understanding of the non-profit sector; and ability to handle information confidentially
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal with a diverse type of people
· Excellent organizational, time management skills, and ability to cope with limited resources, seize opportunities and think creatively
· Good work ethics, a flexible and non-judgmental approach to people
· Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently
