About Us
Our Mission:
Celebrating, inspiring and educating with film and filmmakers 12 months a year.
Hi! My name is Charlie Van Gilder and I’m your new Volunteer Coordinator.
I was a PTFF volunteer in the past, loved being part of it all and encourage you to join us. You can play a positive part in making this the most rewarding and successful event ever.

Each year, about 300 volunteers join us to collaborate on one of Port Townsend’s most beloved community events. This is a great way for you to meet new people who share a love of film and the many ways film investigates the world we live in and what it means to be human.
What are the volunteer opportunities?
• Movie Venues: We need theatre managers, assistant managers, crowd liaisons, and ushers at our eight movie venues. The majority of volunteers work in this area helping to manage lines, punch tickets, greet and assist folks, answer questions and just generally make the venue run smoothly.

• Hospitality, Pass Purchase and Concierge Services: Our Hospitality Center, located in the Northwind Arts Center, opens prior to the Festival on Thursday and runs through Sunday. Work one of the days, and hand out pre-sold passes, check in volunteers, sell passes (we train you on use of credit card machines), greet guests and introduce them to PTFF and Port Townsend. A ready smile, positive disposition and prior customer service preferred!

• Sales: Merchandise and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches: Sell our PTFF-branded hats, T-shirts, water bottles and DVDs in the Hospitality Center. Or help at our outdoor grilled cheese stand with Pane d’Amore, making and selling delicious sandwiches to help support PTFF (food handler card required).

• Festival Libations Concessions: Work at our wine and beer garden on Taylor Street under the big white tent, or at our “Festival Bar on the Dock” in the Pope Marine Park building, serving organic cocktails, hard cider and other beverages. You must be over 21 to volunteer as bartenders and assistants (alcohol server permit required).

• Event Crew: Help set up for the festival and take down after. Festival work starts on Mon. Sept. 17 and runs through Mon, Sept. 24. You will need work gloves, a sense of humor, and if you have a truck, even better. Some of the work requires a strong back. We also need people to pick up trash each night.

• Parties and More: Special events, such as Friday’s Dinner on Taylor Street (for 600), the Filmmakers' Reception and the Awards Party all need enthusiastic volunteers. We also staff our Filmmakers Lounge which provides a quiet space, beverages and snacks for our filmmaker guests. Help with planning, set-up, serving, and break down. Or manage one of these events.

• Transportation & Guest Services: Can you pick up filmmakers at the airport, drive to the ferry? Provide accommodations? Or you can help in the office to coordinate our guest services. Our goal is for our guests (last year we hosted 60 filmmakers) to feel more like family than visitors.

• Data Entry/Computer skills: Data entry includes tabulating our survey and ballots. You can also assist our Volunteer Manager and/or office staff. Requires precision and skill with software tools.

• PTFF Tech Support: Calling all geeks! Do you have computer skills or an interest in running projectors and sound during the festival? We provide training.

• Crowd Liaison: Are you an extrovert? Love talking about film with strangers? We want our pass holders to feel welcomed and engaged. Help us “work the lines.” Training provided.
2018 Volunteer Rewards
First and foremost, you share in making PTFF a beloved part of our cultural landscape. Secondly, you will have fun and make new friends. But there is more: By volunteering, you become a member of the PTFF for one year. All volunteers earn a pass to see films during the Festival (levels described below) and a Membership Card. The Membership Card will give you advance notice for special events, and discounts with partners such as The Rose Theatre for First Tuesday Salon, and Pane d' Amore for fresh bread purchases (you must present your card to receive a discount). And, the best benefit of all is the year-round use of our unique film library with over 1,000 titles.

Earn a pass to the Festival films.
Only you can decide how many hours you have to give. But as an incentive you will earn a pass (or more than one pass), depending on the hours you work:

• Work 18 hours or more and earn a Six Pack, this is a shareable pass good for 6 movies.
• Work 36 hours or more and earn a second Six Pack, good for 12 movies.
• Be a Manager and earn a Festival Pass, the highest level a volunteer can earn. This gives you access to all films during the festival.
• Work fewer than 18 hours and earn One Passes as follows (7-11 hours = 2 passes, 12-17 hours = 4 passes).

Hours worked before and during the festival week will be combined to get your total. Volunteers who work more than 50 hours may donate those hours toward pass scholarships for students.
All new and returning volunteers must complete the Volunteer Application
There will be three “Sign Up” events in the PTFF office in August, dates to come.

There will be a general training session on Sun., Sept 16 from 2-4 pm at the American Legion Hall.

We will also hold venue-specific training meetings in the office so that you can become familiar with the needs of venue(s) where you will be working. Reminders will be sent via e-mail.

If you have any questions, please e-mail charlie@ptfilmfest.com or call Charlie Van Gilder at 360-379-1333.
Thank you for all your support.
