About the Event
Welcome! Thanks for joining our community.

Please wear lots of layers and clothes that you do not mind getting dirty or wet. Rainboots are recommended for shower service.

You are now part of Lava Mae's mission to Take RADICAL HOSPITALITY™ To The Street.

For our unhoused neighbors, few things are more important than opportunity; it's a source of strength, being treated with dignity, a community, and that fuels resilience.

When you join us on the streets, you will play a vital role in delivering a feeling of comfort and care to our 'guests'.

Along with our Front Line Staff, you will help provide them with a warm shower, a plush towel and some relaxed music, and all behind that closed door, something vital shifts.

Join us in raising the bar and providing care and dignity to people moving through homelessness in San Francisco.

READY TO JOIN US?

Site Location: You will spot our beautiful blue shower trailer in front of the Women' Resource Center at 930 Bryant Street.

Pro Tip 1: Bring a layer and wear something you don't mind getting mildly wet, including closed shoes. Travel light- bring only what you absolutely need.

Pro Tip 2: Your health and safety is important to us. Feel free to take breaks and inform our Lava Mae staff if you find yourself feeling uncomfortable

Pro Tip 3: Relax, be yourself and have fun!

We look forward to meeting you!
Available Roles
Mobile Hygiene Volunteer
When you volunteer with our mobile hygiene service, you’ll play a vital role in helping our shower guests feel welcome, seen and valued. Working alongside our team, you’ll greet guests, chat with them while they await their turn for a shower, provide fresh towels, clean socks and personal hygiene items, and clean shower stalls. This is an individual volunteer opportunity with a maximum of 2 volunteers per shift. We ask volunteers to stay for a minimum of two hours; our volunteer shifts range from 2.5 hours to 4 hours. When you arrive, Lava Mae’s Mobile Service Coordinators will provide a short orientation. Volunteering at our mobile hygiene service is a unique opportunity to get to know our grateful guests. We encourage you to be curious, ask questions, and treat every guest with an unexpected level of care we call RADICAL HOSPITALITY™
