About the Event
Welcome to 5th and Harrison at Jack London Square! Thank you for joining our community of amazing volunteers. You are now part of Lava Mae's mission to bring RADICAL HOSPITALITY™ to the streets of Oakland.

Lava Mae is about delivering radical hospitality to people moving through homelessness - and our volunteers are at the front lines of our impact. Join our team of Mobile Service Coordinators at sites across the Bay Area for a unique and memorable day of action on the streets.

You will be assisting our team of Mobile Service Coordinators with greeting and welcoming our guests, managing the queue, cleaning the showers, and distributing hygiene kits and donations. We look forward to meeting you!

Pro Tip 2: Your health and safety is important to us. Feel free to take breaks and inform our team of Mobile Service Coordinators if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe at any time during your volunteer service.

Pro Tip 3: Relax, be yourself, and have fun!
Available Roles
Mobile Hygiene Volunteer
When you volunteer with our mobile hygiene service, you’ll play a vital role in helping our shower guests feel welcome, seen and valued. Working alongside our team, you’ll greet guests, chat with them while they await their turn for a shower, provide fresh towels, clean socks and personal hygiene items, and clean shower stalls. This is an individual volunteer opportunity with a maximum of 2 volunteers per shift. We ask volunteers to stay for a minimum of two hours; our volunteer shifts range from 2.5 hours to 4 hours. When you arrive, Lava Mae’s Mobile Service Coordinators will provide a short orientation. Volunteering at our mobile hygiene service is a unique opportunity to get to know our grateful guests. We encourage you to be curious, ask questions, and treat every guest with an unexpected level of care we call RADICAL HOSPITALITY™
