Walker Buddies—tutoring and mentoring
With Hope For San Diego
Event Details
19 June - 20 December 2019
Walker Elementary School, 9225 Hillery Drive
San Diego, CA, 92126, United States
About the Event
Kids who don't learn to read by the end of third grade are at great risk of not graduating high school! Come help struggling students know that someone cares about them. You will be participating in rotating activities with your buddies—everything from math and reading to homework and hands-on activities.

Of the more than 400 students at Walker Elementary School, nearly half are emerging bi-lingual, 80% receive free or reduced lunch, and 20% don't have stable housing. Walker Buddies is offered as a free, volunteer-run program for the most vulnerable of these students.

Once you signup here, we will connect and send you the Walker Elementary Volunteer Form that will need to be brought with you on your first day of tutoring along with a verified TB Test. We recommend your local drugstore to get a TB Test/Read.

Volunteers can serve as buddies on Mondays from 5:00-6:30pm or Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00pm.
A commitment of three times per month is required.
Available Roles
