About the Assignment
We are part of Greater Manchester's coproduction initiative to support people who are homeless and those at risk of homelessness.

We provide a night shelter as temporary accomodation for referred male guests every night from October to April.

Locations vary within 2 miles of the city centre and specific venues are given out once training is complete.
Working together with other organisations, GTMNS volunteers support people who would otherwise be sleeping on the streets. Our fantastic team of volunteers provide necessary respite and relaxation from the daily efforts homeless people face. We engage with those on the edge of society reminding them that they are not alone and are part of a community.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for volunteers from all walks of life who can get involved with a variety of shelter tasks. These may take place in or outside of the shelter.

Many people volunteer for evening shifts so applications from people available overnight and in the mornings are greatly encouraged.
Application Process
There is an application process to volunteer with GTMNS and it must be completed before attending a shelter. We can assist with any stage of the application process.

You will need to complete an online application form which will ask for 2 references. You will also be asked to set up a TimeCounts account. This is the online scheduling system that we use to sign up for shifts and duties.

When we have received satisfactory references, you will be invited to introductory training either as part of a large group or a small one.

Once completed, you will then be added to the calendar and be able to select your own shifts.

All members of the GTMNS family must uphold the policies and procedures in place. This is for the safety of all volunteers, guests and buildings.

A commitment to supporting the journey of people who would otherwise be sleeping rough is vital to the role. Treating people as equals and with respect at all times is the main part of volunteering with GTMNS.

Many of our guests have English as an additional language and can sometimes be limited. Knowledge of other languages and ability to communicate without English is very useful at times.
GTMNS volunteers are responsible for many different things and the roles can vary widely. We usually ask that volunteers are flexible and help out where needed.

The role could include: cooking, cleaning, socialising, setting up or packing away, laundry, delivery, sorting donations and much more.
Suitable For
The role is suitable for those over the age of 18.

Although we are flexible with the tasks that volunteers do, please contact us if you have any concerns.

Times are flexible to fit around many people's own commitments.
