About the Assignment
Work Share volunteers are a step above our regular volunteers - they commit to joining us the same time every week to help out on the farm in exchange for gardening knowledge and vegetables. As a Work Share volunteer, you will assist the farm team in any necessary work such as planting, weeding, harvesting, digging, cleaning, bed prep, etc. Our Work Shares play an important role on the farm, and the farmers rely on them for regular help completing tasks.
To participate in our Work Share program, we ask that you miss no more than 2 shifts. Our farmers plan for work when they have scheduled help, and it can be a big disruption to plans if help doesn't come. It is important that you are strong and able-bodied to meet the physical demands of farm work, and that you wear comfortable, weather appropriate clothing. You will be able to pick a half-day shift to work each week at the same time. You must be available one morning or one afternoon at the same time each week to participate. We have shifts available Monday through Friday, mornings and afternoons most days, and each shift is 3 hours long.
What’s In It For You?
Perhaps the greatest Work Share perk is the fresh food. Each week after you have worked your shift, if there are extra vegetables, you will be able to take some home free of charge (up to the equivalent of $25). Another bonus is working next to farmers each week so you can learn about growing food and how a small vegetable farm operates.
Application Process and Timeline
We will be accepting applications for the Spring Work Share through the end of February, with a possible info session or in-person meetings in early to mid March. Orientation will be during the last week of March, and the Work Share will run April 1 through June 14. We have morning and afternoon shifts available almost everyday Monday through Friday.
