About the Event
**Please note that this event is being hosted as a drop-in style work party from 1-5 pm! However, we ask that all community volunteers participate in an introduction and orientation gathering at the orchard before you begin harvesting -- these orientations will happen at 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, and 4 pm. A boyscout troop will be harvesting with us from 3:30-5:30 pm, but community volunteer are still welcome to harvest during this time as well!

Join us for an apple harvest at Longacres Racetrack -- the site of a historic horse racetrack in Renton! The property is home to around 120 apple trees, many at least 30 years old and used historically to feed some of the resident racetrack horses! If pest free, the apples harvested from the property will be distributed to local area food banks and meal programs! Undersized or pest damaged fruit will be processed into apple sauce and cider. All volunteers are welcome to take a bag of apples home with them at the end of the event!

Please make sure to bring your mask and we will supply the necessary tools all sanitized and ready to go! And like always, come prepared for rain or shine--dressed in closed toed shoes and clothes you are comfortable getting potentially a little dirty!

City Fruit Volunteer Guidelines for COVID-19
The wellbeing of our volunteers is of the utmost importance, and we only ask you to commit to volunteering if you are safely able to do so.

Are you healthy enough to volunteer?
Based on what the CDC considers high-risk conditions, you should probably not volunteer outside the home if any of these apply to you – for the safety of yourself and everyone around you:
If you currently have a cough, fever, or any respiratory illness
If you currently have a heart condition, lung disease, diabetes, or any other serious health condition,
If you are over the age of 65, older adults and those with chronic health conditions are discouraged from pursuing volunteer events at this time due to vulnerability to COVID-19.
If you or anyone in your household have been in close contact with anyone who is confirmed to have COVID-19

Please stay home if you are feeling under the weather, have had recent contact with anyone demonstrating Covid-19 symptoms, or if you yourself have experienced a dry cough, fever, or other Covid-19 symptoms within the last 14 days.

Thanks for reading this, we look forward to seeing you out there!

City Fruit started because tree owners did not have the avenues to share excess fruit and community members were not aware that they could harvest from public orchards.
